Spec sections
You can set up the spec section hierarchy, which is used for records such as submittals and companies and for custom fields.
For companies, the spec section always comes from the portfolio settings.
- Open the settings.
- In the Portfolio settings or Project settings section of the menu, click Spec Sections.
You can add spec sections directly in the settings or update the hierarchy by using the Excel import sheet.
- Add a spec section to the top level of the hierarchy.
- At the top of the grid, click Add new row.
- Enter the name and description, and then click Done.
- Add a child spec section.
- Hover over the parent spec section, and then click add_circle (Add) on the row.
- Enter the name and description, and then click Done.
The spec section is sorted automatically in the hierarchy.
- Select the checkbox for one spec section.
- On the navigation toolbar, click content_copy (Copy).
- Edit the name and description, and then click Done.
Only the selected spec section, and not any of its children, is copied. The new spec section is added under the same parent as the copied one.
You can edit spec sections directly in the settings or update the hierarchy using the Excel import sheet.
- In the hierarchy, click the name or description, and then make the changes.
- Click Done.
- On the navigation toolbar, click (Import/Export) > Export to Excel.
- Open the Excel file.
- In the Level 1 to Level 5 columns, add, edit, or delete the spec sections.
- If you enter items into different columns of the same row, the item in the right column is added as a child of the item to its left.
- When you upload the file into ProjectSight, the following items aren't added:
- Items that are outside of the Level columns
- Items without a defined parent (an item in the next column to the left, either in the same row or the one above)
- Duplicate items at the same level
- Save the Excel file.
- In ProjectSight, open the spec section settings.
- On the navigation toolbar, click (Import/Export) > Update from Excel.
- Select the Excel file to import.
The existing spec sections are downloaded in an Excel file.
In the settings, an item isn't added for 1 - Code because it's not in a labeled Level column.
If you add an item in the Level 2 column, there must be an item in the Level 1 column.
The first item is imported, and the second one is ignored. The comparison isn't case-sensitive.
The hierarchy, which is sorted alphabetically, is updated to match the file.
You can delete spec sections that are in use. A deleted spec section remains linked to a record if it was previously selected, but you can't select the deleted spec section for anything else.
- Select the checkbox for one or more spec sections.
- On the navigation toolbar, click delete (Remove).
You can also hover over the spec section and then click cancel (Remove) on the row.
