Disciplines

In the discipline settings, you can add and update the disciplines that are available for drawings.

The same list of disciplines is available in the lookup list settings and in the discipline settings, so you can add and update them in either place. In the discipline settings, you can also add a prefix to each discipline.

When you upload a drawing in the Drawings module, the drawing prefix is used to automatically find the discipline from the drawing number. If the discipline isn't identified, the Discipline field is empty for the drawing.

In the discipline settings, the prefix for the Architectural option is A.

When you upload a drawing with a number that starts with A, the Architectural option is selected automatically in the Discipline field.

The standard disciplines are available by default in new portfolios that are created after this feature is released. The prefix is only displayed in the discipline settings for drawings.

  1. Open the settings.
  2. In the Portfolio settings or Project settings section of the menu, select Records.
  3. On the menu, select Drawings.
  4. On the settings menu, select Discipline.

You can add disciplines so that they're available in the Discipline field for drawings.

The prefix and description combination for each discipline must be unique.

  1. At the top of the grid, select Add new row.
  2. In the Prefix column, enter a unique prefix of up to 3 letters.
  3. In the Discipline column, enter a description.
  4. Press Enter.

    Select Done.

You can edit the prefix and description or change the order of the disciplines.

  1. Select the Prefix column, and then edit the prefix.
  2. Select the Description column, and then edit the description.
  3. Press Enter.

  • Select the discipline, and then drag it to a different position in the list.

    • —Or—

    To sort the disciplines alphanumerically, select sort_by_alpha (Sort) on the toolbar.

You can delete disciplines that are in use. A deleted discipline remains linked to a drawing if it was previously selected, but you can't select the deleted discipline for anything else.

  • Point the cursor to the row, and then select cancel (Remove).

    • The drawing discipline is deleted immediately from the list.
